Australia on the other hand seems so much more optimistic about their future. Plus they are in a great location to world markets and have abundant resources. Plus they are an island continent so enemies are far away and not likely to up their defense spending much.

They both are great countries with healthy balance sheets. They both have low populations with huge areas of land. So Canada's population has pretty much stagnated by the border cities by US with the exceptions of Calgary and Edmonton.
Anyway, this isn't to put Canada down at all. I think it is a fantastic country also. They have a healthy financial system and health care and good schools. And if they would start selling more of their resources to other countries and get more basic research facilities into place for new industries they could be number one easy in my book.
